Event Type

Join Vintage Wings of Canada pilots Dave Hadfield and John Aitken in their day long annual recurrent training on this Canadian-built (and Vintage Wings restored) example of the Westland Lysander. This is one of only three flying examples of this very unique aircraft in the world today. Learn the true meaning of the expression – “it’s not broken, it’s British” and it’s relation to the Lysander and its systems. Originally designed as an army cooperation aircraft, the Lysander’s fame came from its use as a true ‘black ops’ aircraft by delivering spies and equipment to resistence fighters in occupied Europe to un-prepared fields on moonless nights. It’s short take-off and landing characteristics made it ideal for these operations.

Throughout this full day program, our pair of seasoned Vintage Wings pilots will give you the ins and outs, ups and downs of this aircraft that you won’t find in any book, things only learned through many years of experience.

This briefing will cover:

• Aircraft technical systems, engine, hydraulics, controls and instrumentation

• Aircraft handling and flying characteristics
