Sit in for the day with the Vintage Wings of Canada Yellow Wings flight crew for their day long annual recurrent training program on the Fleet Finch biplane, Fleet-built Fairchild Cornell and the North American Harvard Mk IV. These aircraft were instrumental in the training of pilots as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan that produced thousands of aircrew here in Canada during the Second World War. Throughout this program, our seasoned Vintage Wings pilots will give you the ins and outs, ups and downs of each of the aircraft that you won’t find in any book, things only learned through many years of experience.

To start off the day, Don Buchan will give a briefing on the BCATP and its impact on aviation in Canada. Dave Hadfield will follow up with an in-depth talk on the characteristics of flying taildragger aircraft.

Next up will be Peter Ashwood Smith with his briefing on the Fleet Finch.

Following a lunch break, Don Buchan will run you through the Fleet-built Fairchild Cornell followed by Mike Ruddick and John Aitken getting into the details of the Harvard.

The day will be broken up with coffee breaks where you will be able to get up close and personal with each of the aircraft.

Each of the aircraft briefings will cover:

• Aircraft technical systems, engine, hydraulics, controls and instrumentation

• Aircraft handling and flying characteristics
