DoD to honor World War II veterans during 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe

Victory in Europe Day, also known as VE day or just V Day, was first celebrated on 8 May 1945 to mark the end of World War II in Europe.

The Department of Defense (DoD) will honor the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a salute to our remaining World War II veterans on Friday, May 8, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Defense.gov, Facebook, and Twitter. This production will celebrate America’s resolve and the resolve of our World War II veterans by thanking them for the sacrifices they made to secure peace for our Nation and our allies around the globe.

The line-up for the program includes appearances by ABC’s Robin Roberts, Tom Brokaw, Comedian Jay Leno, actress Tatiana Zappardino; interviews by WWII veterans, and historical footage that tells the story of the world 75-years-ago.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
