Following on from our article on February 22, we can now report that the Yankee Air Museum has been able to secure the addition of an eleventh Corsair to their air show line up for this year’s Thunder Over Michigan air show in Ypsilanti, Michigan during the weekend of August 3/4. The latest ‘bent wing bird’ scheduled to attend is the Mid America Flight Museum’s Goodyear-built FG-1D Corsair Bu.92471. If all of these Corsairs are able to attend, it will surely be the biggest gathering of airworthy Corsairs in one location since the days when they were still flying with the French Navy (Aéronavale) during the early 1960s. Thunder Over Michigan is clearly going to be a Must-See air show this year, as the chances of such a gathering happening again anywhere else are pretty slim.
In summary, the lineup now stands as below…
F4U-7 Bu.133722 – Erickson Aircraft Collection
F4U-7 Bu.133710 – John O’Connor
F4U-5N Bu.123168 – Fighters & Legends
F4U-4 Bu.97143 – Jim Tobul
FG-1D Bu.92508 – Military Aviation Museum
F4U-4 Bu.97388 – Wings Of The North
FG-1D Bu.92468 – Commemorative Air Force – Dixie Wing
F4U-5NL Bu.122179 – Collings Foundation
FG-1D Bu.88090/NZ5612 – Louis Horschel
FG-1D Bu.67089 – Elenville, LLC
FG-1D Corsair Bu.92471 – Mid America Flight Museum
… but don’t be surprised if one or two more Corsairs join in on the fun!
