The Sabre F-86 Mk5 owned by the Sarnia 403 Wing RCAFA was transported today to the hanagar of COPA Flight 7 with Sarnia Police escorting the Jet through the city.
This aircraft is one of the original 6 Golden Hawk Aircraft which performed for the RCAF from the late 50’s to early 60’s. The Golden Hawks were a Canadian military aerobatic flying team established in 1959 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the “Golden” 50th anniversary of Canadian flight, which began with the AEA Silver Dart in 1909. Sabres used by the Golden Hawks aerobatic team belonged to the Sabre Transition Unit and later the (Fighter) Operational Training Unit of CFB Chatham, New Brunswick. Among other aerial maneuvers performed by the Golden Hawks, the pilots would sometimes stagger past the crowd at low altitude with the canopy open waving at the spectators.
