Despite uncooperative weather, the Vintage Wings of Canada’s annual Wings Over Gatineau-Ottawa Airshow held recently was a tremendous success, attracting more than 32,000 attendees to Ottawa-Gatineau Executive Airport in Gatineau, QC, Canada. Several participating groups sent their planes to the event including the Canadian Warplane Heritage, which sent its Avro Lancaster, Westland Lysander, Consolidated Canso, Fairey Firefly, Douglas C-47 and North American B-25J Mitchell from Hamilton, Ontario.
The Royal Canadian Air Force also attended in force, its contribution included the Snowbirds Demonstration Team with their Canadair CT-114 Tutors who wowed the crowd with their precision aerial acrobatics.
Two Lockheed Electras made it to Gatineau as well; a Model 10A wearing its 1937 Trans-Canada Air Lines livery, came from the Western Canada Aviation Museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Peter Ramm’s stunning Lockheed 12A, which had just won the Antique Grand Champion award at the EAA’s Airventure air show at Oshkosh, Wisconsin in July, made the trip to Gatineau from St Catharines, Ontario.
