Delta Air Lines, the first U.S. carrier to reach the milestone of a century in operation, is marking this historic occasion with a grand refresh of the Delta Flight Museum. Located at the heart of Delta’s Atlanta headquarters, the museum has been transformed to better showcase the airline’s rich legacy, the pioneers who built it, and the innovations that propelled it skyward. Reopening to the public on Monday, April 7, the newly renovated space brings Delta’s century of aviation history to life. Housed in two historic hangars, the museum’s expanded exhibits and interactive experiences immerse visitors in the story of Delta’s evolution—from its humble beginnings as a crop-dusting operation in 1924 to one of the world’s leading airlines.
A Tribute to Delta’s Aviation Legacy
For nearly 30 years, the Delta Flight Museum has been a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts, historians, and industry professionals alike. The recent renovation ensures that Delta’s legacy remains preserved for future generations, featuring rare aircraft, archival treasures, and new hands-on exhibits designed to inspire.
Among the highlights is the Delta Connects You experience, which leverages extended reality technology to illustrate Delta’s role in linking people and cultures worldwide. Visitors can also get up close with historic aircraft, including a beautifully preserved Douglas DC-3 and the iconic Spirit of Delta Boeing 767, the first widebody jet purchased by Delta employees as a tribute to their airline.
Marie Force, Delta’s director of archives, led the extensive effort to preserve and display artifacts spanning a century of flight, including historic uniforms, vintage engine components, and scale models from Delta’s extensive airline family, which includes over 40 carriers and five major mergers. “An airline’s history is more than aircraft and timetables—it’s the people, the ingenuity, and the passion that keep it flying,” says Force. “At Delta, we’re dedicated to sharing that story, not just as a tribute to the past but as a beacon for the future of aviation.”
An Immersive Experience for Aviation Enthusiasts
More than just a collection of artifacts, the revitalized museum is designed for interactive engagement. Visitors can step inside an aircraft maintenance simulator, experience the world of flight attendants and pilots, and learn about career opportunities in aviation. The museum also hosts STEM-focused programs, school field trips, and youth outreach initiatives to spark interest in aerospace careers.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the museum’s renovation was made possible through the Delta Air Lines Foundation and contributions from employees, retirees, and aviation supporters. The project was designed by Imagine Exhibitions, an Atlanta-based firm specializing in world-class exhibit curation.
