Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX PS853, registered as G-RRGN, which we recently reported as having completed a meticulous, rivet by rivet restoration, was damaged when its landing gear collapsed during a landing at East Midlands Airport. The fighter is owned by Rolls Royce, plc as part of their permanent historical collection and will be repaired. There were no injuries reported, though the incident did shut down the main runway at East Midlands for around two hours.
