The CAF Central Texas Wing Receives Grant for Historic Hangar

The CAF’s Central Texas Wing, also called CenTex Wing, based in San Marcos, Texas received a grant of $25,000 from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). The grant money will be used to assist the wing in costs associated with refurbishing the historic hangar at San Marcos Regional Airport, where the CenTex Wing’s aircraft are hangared.The unique 1942 hangar houses the Wing’s aircraft, an aviation library and World War II museum.  The CenTex Wing is has 14 aircraft in this hangar, some of the notable aircraft include the B-25 Mitchell Bomber Yellow Rose, a P-63 Kingcobra and the only flying P-39Q Airacobra in the Western Hemisphere.

 LCRA has been in Texas for more than 80 years providing water and power to most of Central Texas. The company also believes in giving back in other ways that contribute to the quality of life in the communities it serves.The CAF CenTex Wing hangar including the library and museum are open to the public Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no entry fee, but donations are welcome.
