We thought that we would share these lovely photographs from our good friend George Land showing Battle of Britain veteran Hawker Hurricane Mk.I V7497 arriving at her new home with the Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford Aerodrome a couple of days ago. The magnificent fighter has only just emerged from Hawker Restorations Ltd’s workshop at Elmsett Airfield in Suffolk, England. She flew again following restoration on August 30th, 2018. This was the former RAF 501 Squadron Hurricane’s first flight since Pilot Officer Everett Bryan Rogers bailed out of her stricken airframe over Sutton, Kent following a skirmish with Bf 109s on September 28th, 1940. We reported on this project earlier in the year, which includes more details on her history. Now that the restoration is complete, V7497 will operate under the auspices of the Aircraft Restoration Company on behalf of her owners. Richard Mallory Allnutt's aviation passion ignited at the 1974 Farnborough Airshow. Raised in 1970s Britain, he was immersed in WWII aviation lore. Moving to Washington DC, he frequented the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum, meeting aviation legends.
After grad school, Richard worked for Lockheed-Martin but stayed devoted to aviation, volunteering at museums and honing his photography skills.
