Roush Aviation is seeking additional engine builders at its Livonia, Michigan, facility as increased demand expands its work on Rolls-Royce and Packard Merlin engines. The company says the recruitment follows its purchase of Jack Hovey’s inventory last year. The hiring announcement offers mechanics an opportunity to apply their skills to historic aircraft engines, supporting the specialized work required to maintain and overhaul these powerplants. Roush Aviation said it is looking to add a couple of skilled individuals to its team.

The company’s advertised Engine Builder I – Aviation position involves assembling engines and subassemblies, performing overhauls and repairs, and maintaining detailed component records. Responsibilities include measuring components to close tolerances, setting and verifying clearances, and documenting component histories throughout the build process. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of engine-building or mechanical experience. Required skills include diagnosing mechanical problems, operating standard shop equipment, and using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers. The position also calls for attention to detail, organizational ability, basic computer proficiency, and effective written and verbal communication.

Aviation-related education and an FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certificate are listed as preferred qualifications. Additional desirable capabilities include engine teardown and assembly experience, basic fabrication skills, and availability for overtime, including weekends. Full-time benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; life and disability insurance; a 401(k) plan; tuition reimbursement; earned sick time; paid vacation; and paid holidays. Roush provides engineering, testing, prototype, and manufacturing services across several industries, including transportation, aerospace, and defense. Within its aviation operation, the additional engine-building positions reflect a growing need for the hands-on skills involved in servicing historic powerplants. Interested applicants can review the requirements and apply through the Engine Builder I – Aviation listing. Further information about the company is available at roush.com.
