The Commemorative Air Force’s newest Wing, the Joe Foss Squadron of Sioux Falls, South Dakota has been assigned its first warbird by the national organization, a Stinson L-5 Sentinel, and is celebrating the arrival with a World War II-themed hangar dance on August 12th that will also serve as the squadon’s inaugural fundraiser.
The event will be attended by several other WWII aircraft, including “Fifi,” the world’s last flying B-29 Superfortress, as well as a B-24 Liberator, C-45 Expeditor, T-6 Texan, PT-19 Stearman and a P-51 Mustang. A 13 piece swing band, the Gale Pifer Orchestra will play the hits of the 40s, WWII reenactors will be in attendance at add to the atmosphere, and the Date Night Dance Company will provide instruction on the finer points of swing dancing.
The event will be held at Maverick Air Center, just north of the Sioux Falls Airport and run from 5:30pm to 10pm. Tickets may be purchased online at www.cafjoefoss.com. The ticket price includes food, dancing, dancing lessons and a tour of the B-29.
Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
