American Airpower Museum’s C-47 D-Day Living History Flight Experience Returns

On Saturday, June 12, 2021, the American Airpower Museum’s  will resume their Living History Flight Experience program in their WWII Douglas C-47 Skytrain “Second Chance” to celebrate the start of summer and a return to normalcy.  To accommodate public demand, AAM has scheduled three flights for June 12, 2021, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

 AAM’s Living History Flight Experience is a one-of-a-kind immersive educational program, where reenactors take the passengers up in an original WWII C-47 providing a sense of what the 101^st and 82^nd Airborne Division Paratroopers felt on their D-Day assault.  This unique immersive flight experience includes: a mission briefing; a chance to wear authentic military field jackets, helmets and gear. The immersive experience will allow the passengers to watch the crew operate their C-47 and paratroopers getting ready for battle.

“Second Chance” is an original WWII C-47 (s/n 44-76717), it transferred to the Royal Air Force from the USAAF in 1945, prior to D-Day this C-47 saw action in both the Overlord Operation and Market Garden. This C-47 is one of the few true C-47s still in stock military configuration today. It saw service post war in Vietnam with the French Air Force, and spent most of its operational life in the Israeli Air Force finally retiring from active military service in 1996.

The cost of the C-47 flight is $350 per passenger, the museum will conduct up to three flights on June 12^th, starting at 10:00 a.m. The program is about 1.5 hours long and each flight takes 25 minutes.  A flight experience entitles you to bring along an additional person who can visit the Museum all day free of charge.  This is a family-friendly experience for all ages. Moreno Aguiari

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
