PRESS RELEASE – The New England Air Museum is hosting its 4th Annual “Flights & Fantasies” Quilt Show from September 21st-27th, 2015. This major non-juried show will give visitors the opportunity to view a spectacular array of more than 150 quilts to be displayed among the Museum’s collection of more than 80 historic aircraft and dozens of related exhibits.A special exhibit of Mary Wilson Kerr’s Quilt as Desired and a Miniature Quilt Challenge “Ticket to Ride”. This special one-week only event is free to visitors with their paid Museum admission. Although it is not a juried show, there will be a viewer’s choice winner.Mary Wilson Kerr will present lectures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and provide tours of her quilts; Marie Bostwick will present a lecture on Saturday; and Jackie Kunkel will present a trunk show Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be vendors and demos on site Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Food vendors will be on site Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
A Queen Sized Fire Island Hosta quilt, design by Judy Niemeyer, will be raffled to support the Museum. The quilt is on display at the Museum and tickets can be purchased through the drawing on Sunday, September 27. The New England Air Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Seven days a week and is located in Windsor Locks, Conn. adjacent to Bradley International Airport. Take I-91 north or south to CT. exit 40 (Route 20) to Route 75 north. Admission is $12.50 for ages 12 and up, $11.50 for seniors 65 and up and $7.00 for ages 4 to 11. The New England Air Museum is the largest aviation museum in New England and is a private, non-profit educational institution that was organized in 1959. Three larger hangars and an outdoor display contain more than 80 aircraft with permanent exhibits that include the oldest surviving aircraft in the U.S. – the 1870 Silas M. Brooks Balloon Basket, as well as an S-39 Amphibian plane – the first aircraft built in Connecticut by aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky. Featured year-round are many historical aircraft and exhibits including a focus on World War II’s Tuskegee Airmen, and a display about Amelia Earhart alongside a Lockheed Model 10 Electra – the same type of plane flown by the female aviator. The Air Museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting historically significant aircraft and related artifacts, engaging visitors through high-quality exhibits helping them to understand aviation technology and history and inspiring students through innovative and hands-on educational programs. It is owned and operated by the Connecticut Aeronautical Historical Association and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, with four full-time employees, 18 part-time employees, and more than 175 volunteers. Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller.
