Star Wars Takeover At The Museum Of Flight On May the Fourth

The force will energize all with a family day of cosplay, live music, droids and more from the realm of Star Wars

On Sunday, May 4, The Museum of Flight celebrates everything Star Wars with family programs including lightsaber shows and training by the Saber Guild – Kamino Temple, wildly energetic music by the 8-Bit Brass Band; roaming R2-D2s, the 501st Garrison Titan Star Wars cosplayers, and The Museum of Flight’s Aircraft Restoration Expert (and legendary Mandalorian cosplayer) Logan Shepard talks about the ins and outs of starships in the Star Wars universe.

The May the Fourth activities also include Star Wars-themed face painting, a costume contest, story time and family workshops, plus LEGO and scale model displays. Programs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May the Fourth activities are free for Museum Members and included with Museum admission, those arriving in costume receive a $3 discount on admission.

8-Bit Brass Band Musical Performance

8-Bit Brass Band is the cosplaying party band specializing in video game tunes, anime anthems, movie mashups, and fandom favorites, celebrating everyone’s inner nerd on the streets and stages of Seattle and way beyond.

11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

1:45 – 2:15 p.m.

Saber Guild Lightsaber Training | Ages 13+

Group Photo

Everyone can show off their costume in a group photo under the Blackbird spyplane! 1:30 p.m.

The Spacecraft of Star Wars: A Talk with Logan Shepard The Museum of Flight’s Aircraft Restoration Expert (and legendary Mandalorian cosplayer) Logan Shepard talks about the ins and outs of some of the most well-known (and some lesser known) starships of the Star Wars Universe. The talk includes ASL interpretation. 2 – 2:45 p.m.

All-Ages Costume Contest

Calling all Cosplayers! Wear your best Star Wars-themed costume and win over the crowd at this year’s audience-choice costume contest. The top 3 winners will each get a prize. On-site signups required; please signup at the info booth in the lobby early.

Founded in 1965, the independent, nonprofit Museum of Flight is one of the largest air and space museums in the world, annually serving over 600,000 visitors. The Museum’s collection includes more than 160 historically significant airplanes and spacecraft, from the first fighter plane (1914) to today’s 787 Dreamliner. Attractions at the 23-acre, 5-building Seattle campus include the original Boeing Company factory, the NASA Space Shuttle Trainer, Air Force One, Concorde, Lockheed Blackbird and Apollo Moon rockets. In addition to the Seattle campus adjacent to King County International Airport, the Museum also has its 3-acre Restoration Center and Reserve Collection at Paine Field in Everett (not currently open to the public).

With a foundation of aviation history, the Museum is also a hub of news and dialogue with leaders in the emerging field of private spaceflight ventures. The Museum’s aviation and space library and archives are the largest on the West Coast. More than 150,000 individuals are served annually by the Museum’s onsite and outreach educational programs. The Museum of Flight is accredited by the American Association of Museums, and is an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

Angela Decker, from McPherson, Kansas, discovered her passion for aviation after earning a Master’s in Military History from Norwich University in 2011. Since 2012, she has volunteered with vintage aviation groups, excelling as a social media content creator and coordinator. Angela has coordinated aviation and WWII events, appeared as Rosie the Riveter, and is restoring a Stearman aircraft. She is the Operations Logistics Coordinator at CAF Airbase Georgia and an accountant with a degree in Economics from the University of Georgia. Her son, Caden, shares her love for aviation and history and is studying Digital Media Arts.
