The annual high-level aircraft cleaning and inspection will take place at the RAF Museum Midlands on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th of March.

Work will be focused on the suspended aircraft displayed within the Museum’s National Cold War Exhibition and will be carried out by Rappel, industrial rope access specialists.  In addition to cleaning the aircraft, the Rappel team will also be carrying out safety checks on the suspension cables.

Work will take approximately two days to complete and the media are invited to film and photograph the team at work during this period.  Team members are happy to wear GoPro cameras to capture unique views of the aircraft and hangars from a high level.

The Aerospace Museum at Cosford was opened on 1 May 1979 and was born out of a collection of historic ground instructional airframes on inventory at Royal Air Force Cosford. Other aircraft were added to the collection from the RAF’s Reserve Collections of Historic Aircraft scattered about the Country. The Trustees of the Royal Air Force Museum took over the management of the collection, under a Ministry of Defence Management Agreement, as a Museum independent of the RAF Museum at Hendon in London, and employed two staff.

In 2022 the Museum was renamed the RAF Museum Midlands to highlight its links with the local community and the wider Midlands. This was the launch of a new chapter in the Museum’s history and future in the form of a twenty-five-year Development Programme. This program of engagement activities and capital investment will continue our focus on immersive RAF storytelling and support our ambition to encourage reflection and debate across our spaces and programs.
