History takes flight this Saturday at the Planes of Fame Air Museum with an engaging "Hangar Talk" and a thrilling flying demonstration of the legendary North American B-25 "Mitchell" medium bomber.

On October 5, 2024, the Planes of Fame Air Museum will host an exciting Hangar Talk and flying demonstration featuring the iconic North American B-25J “Mitchell” bomber. The B-25, famous for its role in the Doolittle Raid and service throughout WWII, will take center stage in this interactive event.

Guests will experience the history and power of the aircraft firsthand as it takes flight, showcasing its impressive capabilities. In addition to the flying demo, a series of presentations will delve into significant WWII operations, such as Operation Market Garden, as well as personal stories of airmen, including The True Story of Pilot Howard Snyder and the crew of the B-17 “Susan Ruth”. These talks will provide fascinating insights into the challenges and triumphs faced by WWII pilots, offering a unique perspective on aerial combat tactics and strategies.

The Planes of Fame Air Museum’s North American B-25J Mitchell (s/n 44-30423), built in Kansas City and delivered in 1945, did not see combat but served as a U.S. Air Force test aircraft until 1958. It was later acquired by the museum in the early 1960s. This B-25 has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including Pearl Harbor, Forever Young, Con Air, and Catch-22. It also functions as a camera platform for aerial shots in films like Air Force One and is a popular attraction at airshows.
