Curtiss P-40 Warhawk 41-5709 has been acquired by Walter Bowe, who won the Antique Grand Champion Award at AirVenture 2012 with his immaculate 1929 Laird Speedwing LC-R300. The Laird was recently sold on and Bowe has moved on to this Warhawk, which was purchased from the Liberty Foundation of Claremore, Oklahoma.

The P-40 had been recovered from a former Air Force airfield at Fort Randall in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands where it had been abandoned following a crash in 1942 and underwent an extensive multi-year restoration project, emerging in 2009 with registration number N2416X, a second seat and now sporting the colors and markings of the plane flown by the commander of the 23rd Fighter Group and author of “God is my Copilot”, Colonel Robert E. Scott.
