Like most other aviation museums, the Commemorative Air Force’s Dixie Wing in Peachtree City, Georgia has been closed since the beginning of March. While activities around the hangar gradually resumed for a limited number of Wing members, the museum itself hasn’t been accessible to the public. However, the CAF Dixie Wing has just announced that as of Saturday, July 25th, 2020, warbird experience flights will again be available, although on a limited basis. Currently, flights will be available only in the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless, North American LT-6 ‘Mosquito’ and Beech T-34 Mentor. Unfortunately, the Wing’s North American P-51D Mustang affectionately known as ‘Red Nose’ will not be available, as she is presently undergoing maintenance. While warbird rides will be available, the Dixie Wing’s press release made clear that their museum exhibits remain closed to visitors due to the continuing uncertainty of Covid-19, therefore all flights must be pre-scheduled with the unit’s rides team by calling 1-883-FLYWARBIRD, or 1.678.364.1110. No walk-up flights will be available in the immediate future.
Rides Officer, Jerry Robinette remarked: “We look forward to resuming flight operations, and are committed to assuring that our guests have an enjoyable, safe and healthy experience while at our facility. Thank you for flying with us! Your support is what helps us to keep these WWII warbirds flying.”
