PRESS RELEASE – World renowned warbird restorer Judy Pay operates the Old Aeroplane Company at Tyabb Victoria which has returned to the air many significant WWII aircraft over the years. Three of her aircraft are traveling to Temora for Warbirds Downunder; these include the Australian built CAC Mustang, North American T-6 Harvard and her ultra-rare P-40F Warhawk. Judy’s Warhawk was recovered to Australia from Vanuatu in 1989 where it went through several decades of restoration which turned it into one of the world’s most authentic P-40 examples. The complex restoration process was hindered by the aircrafts uniqueness and rarity; it remains as one of only two airworthy Merlin powered P-40 Warhawks in the world.
Graham Hosking’s Chance Vought F4U-5N Corsair represents a type that has earned an exceptional reputation rarely surpassed in the annals of aviation history. This revered warbird continues to be deemed by some as one of the greatest combat aircraft ever built, famous for fighting through W.W.II, Korea, and conflicts in South America in the 1960s. Graham’s Corsair was extensively restored over a 17 year period which led Graham around the world in search of parts, patterns and documentation for this historic aircraft. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R2800 Double Wasp radial engine which gave the aircraft exceptional combat performance particularly in the hot and humid climates of the South Pacific.Temora Aviation Museum (TAM) Chief Executive, Kenny Love said “we are really excited about Judy’s and Graham’s participation in Warbirds Downunder this year. We have some wonderful friends around Australia and we are very fortunate to have a great friendship with both Judy and Graham that means we support each other’s events and airshows. We deeply appreciate them bringing their rare aircraft to Temora and can’t wait to see these aircraft flying in the Warbirds Downunder Airshow with our own aircraft”.
Warbirds Downunder will take place over two days on November 20 & 21 2015 and will feature not only the Temora Aviation Museum’s aircraft collection including two Spitfires, Hudson, Meteor and Boomerang, but also the RAAF Roulettes six ship formation aerobatic team, and many more visiting antique and warbird aircraft including a F4U Corsair, T-28 Trojans and a Grumman TBM Avenger. The RAAF F/A-18 Hornet will fly in the show, a second Hornet will be on the ground for close up viewing by visitors. It is planned that 70 aircraft will take to the skies over the two day airshow.
