World leaders, including have flocked to France to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in WWII.More than 600 American and allied paratroops jumped onto a field outside this tiny farming town in rural Normandy today and yesterday, re-creating a daylight version of the airborne invasion here 70 years ago.Drawing huge crowds who braved hot weather and lined the historic landing area at La Fiere, the aerial spectacle re-enacted the drama of the Normandy landings and served to cap commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day.The airborne assault by more than 13,000 soldiers of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions on June 6, 1944, enabled the success of the beach invasion by thousands of Allied ships and entire armies of troops hours later.
Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
