The Fighter Collection is proud to announce that the world-famous Flying Legends airshow will return in 2021 at its new home of Sywell Aerodrome in the heart of Northamptonshire. The venue was announced on November 6th, 2020.

Following the mutual decision with the Imperial War Museum to end the event’s 25-year run at Duxford, The Fighter Collection has been engaged in discussions with several prospective sites eager to host Europe’s finest annual warbird event. Thousands of vintage aviation enthusiasts travel from around the globe every July to savor the spectacle of historic aircraft displaying in their natural element.

There has been an active airfield at Sywell for more than 90 years and today it’s home to a variety of operators including The Blades aerobatic display team, Sloane Helicopters, aviation services company 2Excel and Ultimate Warbird Flights, which offers passenger experiences in two-seater fighters, including a Spitfire.

Sywell returned to civilian ownership having been used for military training before the Second World War as well as a repair station for Wellington bombers during the hostilities. It has since grown into one of the UK’s best-loved aerodromes and is renowned for its Art Deco hotel, The Aviator, and onsite museum.

During the Second World War Sywell played a key role in flying training, repairs and flight testing. Sywell become the main location to test Wellington bombers and MK 2 four engine bombers.

Jane Larcombe of The Fighter Collection said: “Sywell retains the ambience we have always sought to capture with the Flying Legends brand – it is an historic aerodrome with a resident collection of warbirds and is well versed in delivering high-quality events.

“Michael Bletsoe-Brown and his team along with Richard Grace at Air Leasing have gone out of their way to accommodate us and we can’t wait to extend a warm welcome to our many thousands of loyal followers, as well as some first-time visitors, to what we’re certain will be another memorable Flying Legends in 2021.”

Sywell is centrally located in the UK, has excellent transport links and being far from any large airports means the airspace above is completely unrestricted, making it ideal for the kind of dynamic displays for which Flying Legends is renowned.

The first Flying Legends to take place at Sywell is due to be staged on July 10-11, 2021. Tickets will go on sale once the future path of the current coronavirus pandemic becomes clear. Follow the Flying Legends Facebook page and website for future updates.
