The world’s first museum exhibit about the extraordinary world of air cargo transportation makes its exclusive debut in The Museum of Flight’s new 140,000 sq. ft. Aviation Pavilion when it opens on June 25. The FedEx Air Cargo Exhibit is an interactive experience housed within a 34 ft. section of a former FedEx 727 transport jet. The permanent display uses 3D graphics, videos and “discovery boxes” to unravel the mysteries of how our treasures, animals, foods, gifts and merchandise are carefully moved and delivered around the world with remarkable speed and precision. The exhibit was produced by the Museum in cooperation with FedEx to complement the historic commercial planes in the Pavilion.

The Museum of Flight and FedEx
FedEx and The Museum of Flight collaborated to create this first dedicated air cargo story exhibit. The $1.5 million investment by FedEx made the exhibit possible and will give hundreds of thousands of visitors, students and teachers a first-hand look at how the air cargo business evolved and what it takes to run a worldwide logistics company. The FedEx investment propels the Museum forward toward its goal of raising $77 million of support from the community as part of its Inspiration Begins Here! campaign, with 11 percent of funds left to be raised. “This visually informative exhibit is the result of an amazing collaboration between FedEx and the Museum of Flight, and we couldn’t be prouder of the outcome,” said Phil Blum, FedEx Express vice president, Fleet Development & Strategic Projects. “Given the evolution of air cargo transportation and its contribution to world commerce during the past 100 years, both organizations realized the history of air cargo needed to be told. To see the FedEx name on this exhibit is a huge nod to the part we played in shaping the express delivery segment of our economy, and we look forward to this display educating and inspiring generations to come.”

The exhibit complements the historic commercial aircraft in the Pavilion, and presents a major facet of the aviation industry that most airline passengers never get to see. Visitors who want to learn more can view National Geographic Studio’s film, “Living in the Age of Airplanes,” also playing at the Museum. FedEx’s innovations play a central role in this documentary, which shows the many ways passenger and cargo air travel have radically transformed the global economy during the past 100 years.
