The legendary B-29 Doc, one of only two airworthy B-29 Superfortresses in the world, is set to take part in the 2025 CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show on June 21–22. The historic World War II-era bomber will perform in the air show and be available for ground and cockpit tours, along with B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides throughout the week. Doc is scheduled to arrive in Dayton on Tuesday, June 17, with flight experiences available June 18–22. Rides are open to the public and can be booked at www.b29doc.com/rides.
“We’re honored to bring B-29 Doc to Dayton, a city rich in aviation heritage,” said Josh Wells, Executive Director of B-29 Doc. “This aircraft serves as a powerful tribute to the men and women who built, maintained, and flew these bombers during WWII, and it’s a privilege to share that legacy with the Dayton community.”
Built in Wichita, Kansas, Doc is one of 1,644 B-29s produced during WWII. After serving stateside from 1944 to 1956, the aircraft was retired to China Lake Naval Station in California, where it spent more than four decades as a missile target before being rescued and returned to Wichita. Over 16 years and 450,000 volunteer hours went into its restoration, culminating in a return to flight in 2016.
“Welcoming B-29 Doc to this year’s air show is truly special,” said Scott Buchanan, Chairman of the Dayton Air Show. “It represents not just aviation history, but also the passion and perseverance of the volunteers who restored it. Our guests will have the rare chance to see this iconic aircraft in flight and up close on the ground.” Air show tickets are available at www.daytonairshow.com. Rides are open to the public and can be booked at www.b29doc.com/rides.
