The National Warbird Operator Conference (NWOC) has officially opened the nomination period for its prestigious Warbirds 20 Under 40 program for 2025. Designed to spotlight rising leaders in the Warbird community, this initiative honors 20 individuals under the age of 40 who are making meaningful contributions to the preservation, restoration, operation, and promotion of historic military aircraft.
Applications must be submitted by June 27, 2025. Winners will be announced the weekend prior to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and recognized at one of two signature Warbird events during the show—either the Warbird Picnic on Tuesday or the Warbird Awards Dinner on Saturday night. The 20 Under 40 program was launched at the 2019 NWOC as a way to inspire and support the next generation of Warbird enthusiasts and professionals. The initiative is open to participants worldwide and welcomes nominees from all disciplines within the Warbird field, whether they’re involved in flying, maintenance, restoration, research, education, or media.
“This program shines a light on the younger individuals who are keeping the movement alive,” said Mark Clark of Courtesy Aircraft Sales. “What is not often seen or acknowledged is the number of younger people who are carrying on the Warbird tradition. These people need to be recognized and thanked for their efforts.”
Organizers encourage those unable to download the application form from the NWOC website to request it directly by emailing [email protected]. As Vintage Aviation News has long emphasized, engaging younger generations is vital to ensuring the legacy of Warbirds lives on for decades to come.
