While former military aircraft may steal much of the limelight with their awards at EAA AirVenture, the vintage and classic aircraft earning similar accolades deserve every bit of that same moment in the sun too. Arguably, these aircraft are very much the jewels of the show, with colorful, mirror-like finishes steeped in the sartorial elegance, history, and mystique of a bygone era. Furthermore, it is doubtful that many of these aircraft have had any less endeavor lavished upon the precision and accuracy of their restoration and maintenance either. So here is the list of magnificent vintage aircraft which won awards at EAA AirVenture 2022, courtesy of the EAA Vintage Aircraft Association. Many congratulations to all those who worked so hard to bring these gems to light, and to the EAA volunteers who devoted their time and expertise to inspect and adjudicate the winners.
