Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia invites the public to its spring Open House on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at its hangar in Peachtree City. The event will commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, honor the WWII Home Front, and kick off Armed Forces Week. Visitors will experience one of the largest collections of flying WWII aircraft in Georgia, including the FG-1D Corsair, P-63 Kingcobra, SBD Dauntless, and PT-19 Cornell—a trainer once used by the Tuskegee Airmen. Aircraft rides will be available for purchase online. Ongoing restoration projects, including a P-47N Thunderbolt and N2S Stearman, will also be on display, along with an operational WWII-era Link Trainer.
Themed activities include WWII Home Front reenactors by Kelly’s Zeroes, a Victory Garden, hangar and restoration shop tours, hands-on children’s activities, and educational presentations. The PX store will offer vintage-themed merchandise, and guests can take home a custom souvenir from the base’s dog tag machine. Boy Scout Troop 75 will be serving lunch. “This event is a great way for families and aviation fans to connect with the legacy of the Greatest Generation and explore our historic aircraft up close,” said Airbase Leader Joel Perkins.
VE Day, celebrated May 8, marks the end of WWII in Europe in 1945. Armed Forces Week recognizes the dedication and service of America’s military personnel past and present. Admission is free and open to all ages.For more information, visit www.airbasegeorgia.org
