PRESS RELEASE
The legendary B-29 Superfortress known as DOC will visit the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island from May 21 to May 26, 2025, as part of its History Restored Tour. Built in Wichita, Kansas, during World War II, B-29 DOC is one of only two airworthy B-29 Superfortresses remaining out of the 1,644 originally produced by Boeing. During its stop at Republic Airport, the public will have the rare opportunity to step inside this iconic warbird for ground and cockpit tours—and for those seeking a truly unforgettable experience, flight rides will also be available.
“Long Island played a critical role in America’s WWII aviation history,” said Josh Wells, Executive Director of B-29 DOC. “Republic Aviation built more than 9,000 P-47 Thunderbolts here in Farmingdale, and today, the American Airpower Museum continues that legacy by preserving and flying historic aircraft. This stop is a perfect match for our mission to bring history to life.” The Republic Airport appearance marks the third of eight tour stops across six states between May 8 and June 23.
“We are honored to host DOC this Memorial Day weekend,” said Scott Clyman, Director of Operations at the American Airpower Museum. “This aircraft is a powerful symbol of American ingenuity and sacrifice. Visitors will have the extraordinary chance to see it up close, explore its interior, and even fly aboard one of the last remaining B-29s in the world—a true tribute to those who served and supported the war effort.”
Ground and cockpit tours will be available Wednesday through Friday, May 21 through May 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the last ground tour ticket sold at 3:30 p.m. From Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26, B-29 DOC Flight Experience rides will be offered at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each day, followed by ground and cockpit tours from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tickets for flight rides are available now at www.b29doc.com/rides, while ground and cockpit tour tickets can be purchased at the event. Admission for the ground and cockpit tour experience is $5 per person, in addition to standard admission to the American Airpower Museum, which is required for ramp access to view the B-29 up close. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness living history in action, right here on Long Island.
