The Texas Flying Legends Museum (TFLM) of Houston, Texas should perhaps have the word “Flying” in their name in all capital letters. Their ambitious plans for the summer has significant portions of the museum’s collection of warbirds appearing en masse all over the country this summer for static and aerial display as well as offering flight experiences to the public.
Federal budget issues caused by sequestration force cancellation of public displays by military flight exhibition teams, so filling in for the USAF Thunderbirds, several warbirds from the Texas Flying Legends Museum did the cadets’ hat toss flyover, followed by two planes from the National Museum of World War II Aviation, for the graduation ceremony at the US Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Next up, TFLM is bringing a number of planes to their partner museum, the Dakota Territory Air Museum, making the trip to North Dakota will be TFLM’s Stinson L-5 Sentinel, North American B-25 Mitchell Betty’s Dream, a pair of North American P-51 Mustangs, Dakota Kid II and Little Horse, their Corsair Whistling Death, Mitsubishi A6M Zero Last Samurai, Curtiss P-40 Aleutian Tiger, Grumman Wildcat Wild Cat, North American Harvard Mk.IV, Douglas C-53 Skytrooper, and Grumman TBM Avenger. There will be an air show and dedication of a Texas Flying Legends Wing at the Dakota Territory Air Museum on July 4th.
TFLM will then be taking eleven planes to Airventure 2013, in Oshkosh, followed by the fleet traveling to Wiscasset, Maine for the Wings Over Wiscasset Air Show there on August 6th and appearances at other air shows in the Northeast. The collection will head back down to Texas at the end of the summer and will be participating at the Commemorative Air Force‘s AIR SHO in October.
Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
Gentlemen,
I am the chairman for the Folds of Honor golf tournament Monday September 8th at Walden Golf Course on Lake Conroe. This organization provides scholarships for the children of our wounded or fallen Veterans. .87 cents of every dollar donated to the Folds of Honor program goes to their scholarship program.
It would be an honor to have a fly-over executing a “missing man” maneuver at 0800 during the singing of our National Anthem. You are my last hope.
Thank you,
