New Apache to Land at Pacific Aviation Museum in Pearl Harbor

PRESS RELEASE- Honolulu, HI—Heralding the beginning of RIMPAC—the U.S. Navy’s 2014 Rim of the Pacific exercise—the new U.S. Army Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopter is deploying to Hawaii and will fly in to Ford Island and land for public viewing, a welcoming ceremony and blessing at Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor on Friday, June 20.This is a free event for the community to see this visiting helicopter, hear about the U.S. Army’s newest vertical airborne technology, and meet the pilots and ground crew. For students who have been studying S.T.E.M. subjects, the Apache represents an opportunity to witness the latest in aviation technology at peak performance. The Army AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopter is deploying to Hawaii from mid June to mid August to conduct aviation training in conjunction with the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. Eight Apaches and approximately 40 soldiers from 1st Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, out of Fort Carson, Colorado, are scheduled to conduct training and participate in the U.S. Navy’s 2014 Rim of the Pacific exercise, the world’s largest international maritime exercise.

Schedule of Events

The public is invited at 3pm to view the helicopter and meet the aviation crew of the Apache—the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade—for photographs and signatures. Blessing with Kahu Kordell Kekoa will occur at 4pm. Free shuttles from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center will provide transportation for the community. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
