Many WarbirdsNews readers will be well aware of Gordon Page, and his amazing efforts to save vintage military aircraft over the last three decades. Page first came to prominence in the warbird world back in the 1990s, documenting his adventures recovering Luftwaffe fighters from the Siberian tundra in the book Warbird Recovery: The Hunt for a Rare World War II Plane in Siberia, Russia. That was just the beginning of Page’s efforts to preserve our aviation heritage, which has been substantive. Page has now produced a documentary series called Chasing Planes which presents the fascinating process involved in developing and running the Spirit of Flight Museum in Erie, Colorado. The following press release describes the series in more detail…

After nearly two years of filming and editing, the first season of Chasing Planes has been released. The show follows the museum founder, Gordon Page, and the efforts to run the Spirit of Flight Museum in Erie, Colorado

“Since I was a kid, I have always been obsessed with anything that had to do with airplanes. I am compelled to always look up to see what was flying overhead,” said Chasing Planes host, Gordon Page.  “I have always been able to identify just about anything with wings,” added Page.

The show follows Gordon on his adventures as a pilot, historian, broker, and aircraft appraiser that detail real life experiences and the efforts to save aviation history. In the complete first season of Chasing Planes, the show gives an inside look at the world of running a Museum and how aircraft and artifacts are appraised, acquired, restored and displayed. Gordon and his team meet collectors, and offer the viewer a chance to hear some amazing stories behind historic aircraft and artifacts, sometimes forgotten in storage facilities and hangars for years.

There are six full episodes of Chasing Planes in the complete first season, which was shot mostly in Colorado with other adventures from around the country.

“We are looking forward to debuting the show on DVD at EAA Airventure this year,” said Gordon Page. “Viewers who can’t make that event can get the show online at Vimeo and on our website in the meantime,” he added. Season Two of Chasing Planes is underway, starting with the recovery of a rare Lockheed 12A.   “Stay tuned for more on that recovery and others,” said Page.
