It has been a busy day for most of the flight crews in the D-Day Squadron. As of 9:00 am EST, Betsy’s Biscuit Bomber and Pan Am are both in the air heading for Reykjavik, Iceland after departing Søndre Strømfjord. This outpost was once Sondrestrom Air Force Base, a waypoint code named Bluie West-8 on the Blue Spruce ferry route during WWII. The station is now known more formally as Kangerlussuaq. While there, the two crews spent some time taking a look around the historic site. Commenting on the journey to Greenland, our founding editor, Moreno Aguiari related, “The flight was very smooth, mostly on top of the cloud layer. We landed and right after the entire airport came out to greet us. A local tour guy took us inland, deeper in the Kangerlussuaq Fjord. This is the beginning of the vast, massive ice mass that covers Greenlad. The man was great, he even brought vodka for us!”
