SUN ‘n FUN Welcomes USAF Thunderbirds to Lakeland Today

The SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo is once again taking to the skies over Lakeland April 5th – 10th celebrating the annual comradery of aviation. Raising the bar each year, this year’s Expo will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the U. S. Air Force which will be highlighted by a demonstration from the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds in their first appearance since 2016. Marking its 48th year, this event is the primary fundraiser for the Aerospace Center for Excellence which enables the delivery of STEM-related and aerospace education programs and scholarships engaging over 50,000 local youth each year.
The Thunderbirds will be in the Lakeland airspace between 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm. Media is encouraged to be in place at the airport to capture the excitement of their arrival by 1:00pm.
Once on the ground and arrival procedures complete, the team will be accessible for a Media Event. It is estimated that this opportunity will be for 30 minutes. The media will have an opportunity to meet with and interview the various officers, pilots, and crew.

This event will NOT be taking place at SUN ‘n FUN.
Transportation from SUN ‘n FUN to the Lakeland Terminal is available with a limited number of seats. Signup will be available at the Media Center. Departure will be 12:30pm.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 7th for the Hometown Hero Ride which will celebrate our local police departments! Currently scheduled for 3:30pm, an extremely deserving officer will have the ride of his life representing all his brothers and sisters in blue. A separate press announcement with details will be released this week.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
