The B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center, Wichita, KS, will host three historic WWII aircraft during Wichita Warbird Week from Aug. 4-9, which is part of the Flying Legends of Victory Tour, giving visitors an opportunity to tour and fly aboard the B-29 DOC, B-17 Sentimental Journey, and B-25 Maid in the Shade. The event brings together three of the most recognizable American warbirds from WWII, including DOC, one of only two airworthy Boeing B-29 Superfortresses remaining in the world. Joining the bomber will be Sentimental Journey, one of the few flying Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses, and Maid in the Shade, a North American B-25 Mitchell. Visitors will be able to walk through DOC, exploring the cockpit, bomb bay, and crew compartments.
The event will also provide close access to the B-17 and B-25, along with opportunities to meet the pilots, crews, and volunteers responsible for preserving and operating the aircraft. Ride flights will be available aboard all three aircraft throughout the event, while static tours will allow visitors to experience the bombers when they are not flying. In addition to aircraft tours, visitors can learn about the wartime service of each bomber through conversations with the volunteers and crews who maintain them.
Wichita Warbird Week will be held at the B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center. Tour hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4-7, with the last admission ticket sold at 3 p.m. On Aug. 8 and 9, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the final admission ticket sold at 3:30 p.m. General admission is $15 per person or $30 per family and includes ramp access and aircraft tours when the airplanes are not flying.
