CAF Airbase Georgia Offers “Warbird Pilot for a Day” Experience at Moonlight Swing Auction

CAF Airbase Georgia is offering aviation enthusiasts the chance to bid on an unforgettable "Warbird Pilot for a Day" experience during its Moonlight Swing gala on October 17. The winning bidder will progress through a WWII-style training program that includes flights in a Boeing N2S Stearman, LT-6 Mosquito, and the legendary North American P-51 Mustang. Proceeds from the event will support Airbase Georgia's campaign to expand its restoration, museum, and educational facilities at Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field.

The CAF Airbase Georgia, in Peachtree City, GA has announced that attendees at its upcoming Moonlight Swing gala will have the chance to bid on a unique aviation experience that places the winner in the cockpit of three historic military aircraft. The “Warbird Pilot for a Day” package will be offered as part of the silent auction during Moonlight Swing, scheduled for October 17 at Airbase Georgia’s headquarters at Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field. The event serves as the public launch of the organization’s campaign to expand its hangar and educational facilities.

Designed to mirror the progression of a WWII pilot’s training, the experience begins with a ground school session before a flight in Airbase Georgia’s Boeing N2S Stearman, the primary trainer used by thousands of military aviators during the war. A second training session will then introduce participants to the Airbase’s LT-6 Mosquito before an aerobatic flight in the aircraft. The day concludes with a third briefing and a flight in one of Airbase Georgia’s most recognizable aircraft, the North American P-51 Mustang. During WWII, the Mustang earned its reputation as one of the Allies’ premier long-range escort fighters, accompanying bomber formations deep into occupied Europe.

In addition to the flights, the winning bidder will receive a leather pilot’s jacket, commemorative certificate, and photographs documenting the experience. “This opportunity has never been offered before, and it is a perfect showcase for the capabilities of Airbase Georgia as we kick off a much-needed capital campaign to grow our hangar and classroom spaces,” said Airbase Leader Mark Richards. He also noted, “Our guests at Moonlight Swing will enjoy an unprecedented, immersive evening of 1940s music and atmosphere, highlighted by our aviation silent auction. We are especially appreciative of the support from our title sponsor, Delta Air Lines.” The evening will feature period music, dining, dancing, and fundraising activities in support of Airbase Georgia’s ongoing preservation and education efforts.
