The Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia will hold a TRARON Formation Clinic at West Georgia Regional Airport (CTJ) in Carrollton, Georgia, from October 1 through October 4, 2026. Organized with EAA Chapter 976, the event will bring pilots and historic aircraft together for several days of ground instruction, formation flying, and practical evaluations. A CAF TRARON Formation Clinic is a structured training event where historic aircraft pilots learn, practice, and test for safe formation-flying certification. The training helps pilots develop and maintain the specialized skills required to operate safely and precisely alongside other aircraft.

Training will focus primarily on the North American T-6 Texan, SNJ, and Harvard; Beech 18 and C-45; and Beechcraft T-34 Mentor. Pilots hoping to participate in other aircraft types are encouraged to contact the organizers before registering to ensure that enough compatible aircraft will be present. Participants will arrive on Thursday, October 1, with initial and recurrent formation ground instruction scheduled for that evening. Flying activities will begin Friday following a mandatory morning safety briefing, with additional training sessions planned throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Instruction will combine classroom education with practical flight training. Check-pilot examinations will also be available when appropriate. Organizers caution that pilots attending their first formation clinic should not expect to earn a Formation and Safety Team Wing Card during the event. Recommendations for wing or lead practical examinations will be made solely by the clinic’s instructors and check pilots based on each participant’s demonstrated proficiency.

All participating pilots must be members of both the Commemorative Air Force and CAF TRARON before arriving in Carrollton, as memberships cannot be processed during the clinic. Aircraft used during the event must also meet TRARON’s insurance requirements, including coverage for formation flying. Participants will be required to submit the appropriate documentation and complete a hold-harmless agreement in advance. Registration includes instruction, applicable check-pilot examinations, a flight-suit patch, and selected meals during the weekend. Fuel will be available through West Georgia Regional Airport, while aircraft tie-down space will be provided on the EAA ramp. The clinic will conclude on Sunday, October 4.
