Media are invited to the unveiling of a Cold War icon, a Lockheed CF-104 Starfighter, that will give the Air Force Museum Of Alberta in Calgary, Alberta an opportunity to thank their title supporter, retired Major General Ken Lett.
The CF-104 is finally ready to make its debut following thousands of volunteer restoration hours lavished upon it, a road move from Springbank airport to The Military Museums, and a generous donation from Maj.Gen.(Ret.) Ken Lett. The Starfighter is a key feature of the Ken and Roma Lett Cold War Exhibit, opening in the new year. The new exhibit will be home to three Canadian Cold War-era fighter jets.
The goal of “Project 846” was to restore the CF-104 (RCAF serial 104846) back to the original 1960s look and configuration it had when first received from the Canadair factory in 1963. The polished aluminum fuselage and white wings were an iconic paint scheme for the Mach 2.2 fighter – the fastest operational aircraft ever to serve in the Canadian Forces.
The unveiling will serve as a public opportunity for the AFMA to thank Mr. Lett for his support, alongside the numerous additional sponsors and volunteers involved in creating this one-of-a-kind exhibit. The Ken and Roma Lett Cold War Exhibit is an effort to pay tribute to the Canadians who stood ready to defend Canada throughout the Cold War. It will be the only Air Force exhibit dedicated to the Cold War in Canada.
WHO: There will be various retired Royal Canadian Air Force personnel on hand available to speak to the media including:
Maj.-Gen. Ken Lett – the first Commanding Officer of a CF-104 squadron
Gerry Morrison – retired CF-104 pilot
Don Matthews – retired CF-18 pilot and AFMSA Chairman

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
