As the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) kicks off its 2025 flying season, CAF Headquarters is proud to announce the addition of several highly experienced professionals to its Operations Team. These new appointments bring decades of expertise and a strong dedication to advancing safety, operational excellence, and the preservation of aviation heritage. CAF Chief Aviation Officer Jim Lasche highlighted the importance of these new team members, saying, “Having individuals on staff with deep experience in both General Aviation and a thorough understanding of the CAF’s unique community needs is invaluable. Their expertise and commitment will play a crucial role as we continue to grow and enhance our operational capabilities.”
TJ Cook joins as Director of Operations. A CAF member since 1985, Cook’s distinguished background includes service as a U.S. Air Force One Command Pilot and Operations Officer for the Central Texas Wing. He actively flies multiple CAF aircraft and has contributed to the CAF’s StanEval Committee for the past four years.
John Lohmar has been named Director of Safety. A longtime CAF Life Member, Lohmar brings over 40 years of experience in Part 121 Flight Operations Training and Standards, including 15 years as an Aircrew Program Designee (APD). His leadership spans both commercial and corporate aviation, with a strong focus on safety culture development. Lohmar has also been a key contributor to the CAF’s StanEval Committee for 15 years.
Dr. Sam Walters, Ph.D., has been appointed Director of Ground Safety. With more than 30 years of occupational safety leadership and a CAF Marshaller since 1997, Walters has been instrumental in enhancing flight line safety. He will now lead initiatives to develop comprehensive ground safety resources and best practices for CAF units.
