New England Air Museum to Hold Open Cockpit Event

The New England Air Museum will hold its next Open Cockpit event on Sunday, June 15th, Father’s Day. Visitors may climb into the cockpits of up to twelve vintage aircraft in the museum as well as a full-motion flight simulator, and two static flight simulators. The aircraft currently scheduled  for opening to the public include a North American F-100 Super Sabre, Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, Fairchild A-10 “Warthog”, Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, several helicopters and more. There will be additional hands on activities for younger visitors during the event as well, and for the convenience of all, a food vendor will be on site all day.

Also on June 15th, NEAM will host two presentations of a lecture about Amelia Earhart in front of the Air Museum’s Lockheed Electra 10-A, an aircraft very similar to the one in which Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan disappeared during their world circumnavigation attempt in 1937. The presentations will occur at 11:30AM & 1:30PM. Also available on the day of the event will be the Museum’s Flight Sim Spot which provides visitors with a high tech flight experience.

Admission is $12 for ages 12 and up, $11 for seniors 65 and up and $6.50 for ages 4 to 11. Children under 3 are admitted free. For more information, visit www.neam.org or call (860) 623-3305.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
