The Vulcan to the Sky Trust, Doncaster, UK, has highlighted continued engineering work on Avro Vulcan XH558, progress in relocating its historic spares collection, and plans for future developments at Doncaster in its July update. According to the CEO, Craig Shepherd, the Trust’s engineering team has continued inspection, maintenance, and preservation work across several of XH558’s major systems as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard the aircraft. “Our engineering team has been working tirelessly across several of XH558’s major systems, carrying out the careful inspection, maintenance and preservation work needed to keep her in the best possible condition. This work is rarely straightforward, but the team’s knowledge, commitment and attention to detail remain extraordinary.”
The Trust has also continued relocating its historic collection of aircraft spares from its long-standing storage facility in Stratford. Alongside protecting components needed to support the future care of XH558 and English Electric Canberra WK163, the organization is exploring the use of digital scanning and cataloging to preserve engineering knowledge. Shepherd said early discussions with educational and engineering partners have also identified opportunities to use the collection as a learning resource for future generations.

Planning for the Trust’s next phase at Doncaster also continued during July. Shepherd said preparations are underway for a new fundraising initiative aimed at improving protection for XH558 while supporting ongoing engineering work.
