The Annual “Warbirds Over the Beach Air Show” is being held May 18 & 19 at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Museum’s aircraft from the 1940’s and earlier, which are all in flying condition will be on display and flying maneuvers in addition to the many more aircraft will be on display, visiting the event from other museums and personal collections from across the country.
The air show will also feature over 300 re-enactors representing all manner of World War Two troops allowing visitors to interact with both Allied and Axis personnel in their encampments which will be complete with vintage vehicles, armor and artillery. Flight experiences will be on offer on select planes and there will be shopping opportunities provided by the vendors at the military flea market, all accompanied by continuous musical entertainment playing the hits that defined the war era.
This year will mark the first appearance of the recently restored de Havilland Mosquito FB.26 KA114 which we recently reported on. The restoration project took eight years to accomplish but the plane is now airworthy again, making it the only flying de Havilland Mosquito in existence in the world.
There will be distinguished veterans of World War Two sharing their memories of wartime and at the risk of sounding maudlin, time is running out to hear their first-hand experiences.

The museum is also hosting a preview day on May 17th where for the price of their standard admission, visitors may watch the arrival of the visiting warbirds and watch the military re-enactors set up their camps in addition to the normal access to the museum’s exhibits and displays which contain a large collection of vintage World War I and World War II era fighters, bombers, trainers, and seaplanes within the 60,000 square foot facility, which includes an authentic 1934 German Luftwaffe hangar that was originally erected on the Cottbus Army Airfield in Cottbus, Germany and the museum’s restoration and maintenance shops which are open to the public and keep the collection in airworthy condition.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
