New England Air Museum Announces First Open Cockpit Day of 2015

The New England Air Museum open Cockpit

The New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut is always full of activities, and 2015 is no exception. The museum is famous for opening up several of its aircraft up to visitors in most months. They will hold their first Open Cockpit Day of 2015 on Sunday, January 18th. On that day, visitors will be permitted to climb into the cockpits of up to ten vintage aircraft, a full-motion flight simulator and two static flight simulators. Aircraft open to visitors will include the museum’s Bell UH-1B IroquoisNorth American F-100A Super Sabre, Sikorsky HH-52A SeaguardDassault HU-25A Falcon, Lockheed F-104C Starfighter and more.

As an added feature, the Wings & Wheels Modelers Club will present a plastic scale model show featuring hundreds of model airplanes, military vehicles, figures, ship and cars.  There will be ongoing demonstrations by modelers who will be working on and building models throughout the day. Museum educators will provide hands-on activities for younger visitors and the Museum’s Flight Sim Spot full-flight simulator experience will be available throughout most of the day. For the convenience of visitors, a food vendor will be on site serving sandwiches, snacks and beverages. The Museum will be open from 10:00 am to 5 pm. Admission is $12 for ages 12 and up, $11 for seniors 65 and up and $6.50 for ages 4 to 11. Children under 3 are admitted free. For more information, visit www.neam.org or call (860) 623-3305.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.

  1. Do you have others dates where they have open pits so children’s can view inside of planes. I see you have January 18,2015 Is it other dates after that on a Saturday or weekday ? Thanks so much for info
