As part of its effort to help celebrate the Royal Air Force Centenary in 2018, the RAF Museum will be holding a series of after-hours events this year at its campuses in Cosford and London (Hendon). Members of the public who attend will have the opportunity to have a close look inside many rare and interesting vehicles and aircraft cockpits within the RAF Museum collection at each event, with a hundred different exhibits being a part of the program over the course of the year. With careful guidance from museum personnel, there will be opportunities to get inside some of the aircraft/vehicles, though obviously, this will not be possible for the more fragile examples on show.

Four Open Cockpit Evenings will take place at each site, with just 300 tickets available per event. While the museum has not yet published which exhibits will be open to the public, nor for which specific date, this list will be forthcoming in good time. They do plan on including… “a wide range of aircraft and vehicles which aren’t usually opened to the public. The event will allow you to get a feel for what it was like to fly or drive these much loved machines.”

RAF Museum Cosford will be holding its events, each one focusing on a specific hangar and theme, between 6 and 9pm on the following dates:

February 9th
May 19th
September 15th
December 7th

RAF Museum London (Hendon) will be holding its events, between 6 and 9pm on the following dates:

February 24th
April 27th
September 21st
December 8th

Tickets must be purchased in advance, and cost £13.50 per person, or just £10.00 for Museum Members (with a 50p surcharge per order). Tickets for the events at RAF Museum Cosford can be purchased HERE and RAF Museum London (Hendon) are available HERE. Please note that it is possible at this point for non-museum members to buy tickets for all eight events at the slightly discounted price of  £100.00. You can purchase this option at either of the links above.

RAF100 APPEAL 75wideThe RAF Museum also notes that… “Attending the exclusive Open Cockpits and Cabs events is an opportunity to raise vital funds for the RAF100 Appeal, which is a joint venture between the Royal Air Force and the four major RAF charities – the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the Royal Air Forces Association, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust and the Royal Air Force Museum. The aim of the Appeal is to raise money for the RAF family and to create a lasting legacy as we celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force.”
