Yanks Air Museum Bomber Open Cockpit Day- 4/20/13

Aircorps Art Dec 2019

YanksMitchellYanks Air Museum in Chino, California will be hosting their “Bomber Open Cockpit Day” on April 20, 2013 from 10AM to 3PM. The centerpiece of the day’s festivities will be the collection’s North American B-25 Mitchell making its first-ever open cockpit appearance.

The B-25 Mitchell is perhaps best known for its role in the daring Doolittle Raid, which in the early days of US involvement in World War Two, saw a flight of sixteen modified Mitchells successfully strike the purportedly invulnerable Japanese mainland, hitting targets in Tokyo, Yokohama, Yokosuka, Nagoya, Kobe and Osaka. History will come alive for visitors who get to sit behind the controls and gaze through the gun turrets of this legendary aircraft.

While at the facility you will also have the opportunity to tour their military variant Lockheed Constellation, the Lockheed EC-121T Warning Star, from the days before satellites, when pickets of EC-121T’s used their on-board radar and surveillance systems to detect hostile aircraft, monitor telemetry for missile and space shots, and gather weather, communications and radar signals. She carried a crew of 31 men, the largest crew the Navy ever flew aboard an aircraft.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to take a flight on a PT-17 Biplane or for the more adventurous, take an aerobatic flight in a T-6 Texan.

In addition to all of the special activities that accompany this event you can also view the museum’s extraordinary collection of significant aircraft.

Packages are available that include admission, cockpit access, posters, food and fun.
