Warbird enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity this May as all three Commemorative Air Force TBM-3E Grumman Avengers come together for a first-time-ever joint appearance at the eleventh annual Gathering of Avengers and Salute to Veterans show in Peru, Illinois, on May 15th and 16th. Recognized as one of the premier Avenger-focused events in the United States, the gathering is expected to once again draw a significant number of these iconic torpedo bombers, alongside veterans and aviation fans from across the country.

In addition to an estimated eight other privately restored Avengers, these three aircraft serving with the Commemorative Air Force will be appearing at the show, and all three will be offering Living History Flight Experience rides. This is an exceptional opportunity to experience the Avenger firsthand, whether from the rear-facing ball turret or the “observer” seat behind the pilot. Appearing will be Doris Mae from the Capital Wing out of Culpeper, Virginia; Sweet Louise from the Missouri Wing in St. Charles, Missouri; and TBM 309 from the Rocky Mountain Wing in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Capital and Rocky Mountain Wing aircraft both saw extended military service with the Royal Canadian Navy on North Atlantic anti-submarine patrols, while the Missouri Wing TBM trained Korean War pilots in carrier operations. These are Avengers that quite literally earned their keep, each having used its tailhook in active service.

Rides will be priced at $900 per seat aboard all three aircraft, and reservations can be made at [email protected]. With a lineup that combines historical significance, rarity, and the chance for a hands-on flying experience, this year’s Gathering of Avengers promises to be one of the standout warbird events of 2026.
