On Tuesday, May 27, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) received its 2025 Public Display Authority (PDA) following a series of evaluation flights at RAF Coningsby. Despite overcast skies and rain in the forecast, BBMF pilots showcased their display routines before Air Vice-Marshal Mark Jackson OBE, Air Officer Commanding No. 1 Group.

After assessing the precision and safety of the performances, the AOC approved full PDA for each participating display pilot, clearing the BBMF to begin the airshow season. The demonstration included revised routines, notably the crowd-rear arrival of the Lancaster, Hurricane, and Spitfire in three-ship formation—a maneuver requiring special dispensation—and for the first time, a dramatic Lancaster departure directly over the crowd.

These display elements marked the conclusion of the BBMF’s pre-season training, which included flypasts and practice flights throughout May. With official authorization now in hand, the BBMF launched its first public displays of the year the following weekend, stating via social media: “We can’t wait for you all to see our displays this year.” For more information about the RAF Memorial Flight Official Club, visit www.memorialflightclub.com.
