On July 25th, between 10am and 4pm, Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field near Seattle, Washington will be roaring to life before the public at their second annual SkyFair Air & Ground Show. It promises to be a thrilling event as warbirds take to the air while WWII armor rumbles below. Faithfully outfitted re-enactors will even demonstrate some of the ordnance; firing blanks from artillery and tanks on show. It promises to be a unique event, and one not-to-be-missed by aviation and armament enthusiasts alike.
SkyFair will kick off to the shuddering sound of tanks maneuvering and the thunder of their cannon at America’s only tank arena. Hear the defending roar of a German 88mm Flak 37 artillery piece in action and witness the raw power of the 30-ton American M4A1 Sherman M4A1 and Soviet T-34/85 main battle tanks. Puget Sound Military Vehicle Collector Club will also be on hand with a number of vintage vehicles that visitors can see up close. The group will host a lecture on restoring and operating these vintage machines.
At 1 pm, SkyFair takes to the air above Paine Field to demonstrate some of the rarest and most iconic warbirds. Aircraft currently scheduled to fly are the FHC’s P-47D Thunderbolt, Mitsubishi A6M Zero, Hawker Hurricane Mk.XII, and B-25J Mitchell. Also, visitors will get to see, and hear, the last original Focke-Wulf Fw-190 flying in the world; flown by the legendary Steve Hinton.
Guest aircraft will include a demonstration by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Bell UH-1H Iroquois helicopter. Also the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, California will be bringing their Korean War-era MiG-15 and F-86 Sabre jet fighters for a dynamic demonstration over Paine Field.
Many other attractions will be on hand including a live band, World War II re-enactors, a multitude of food and drink vendors, plus the exceptional exhibits in the Flying Heritage Collection’s two packed hangars. Children will also have marvelous opportunities for hands-on learning and a chance to discover America’s rich history or simply to have some fun along the way with bounce houses, video gaming, boffer sword fighting, rock climbing wall, and more.
