World War Two Weekend returns to the Reading Regional Airport this year after taking a year off because of COVID-19. The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s Annual World War II Weekend and “Gathering of Warbirds” is one of the largest events of its type in the world. The show is set for June 4-5-6, 2021 and expected to host historic vehicles and aircraft, as well as hundreds of re-enactors.
World War Two Weekend is like being transported back in time, a feeling which most history books simply can’t do justice. There’s nothing like walking amongst the World War II aircraft that the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum and other organizations put on display, many of which visitors can even ride in.
With just four known survivors, the museum’s ultra-rare Northrop P-61 Black Widow is also an attraction which draws tourists from all over the globe. There is one at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, one at the National United States Air Force Museum, one in Beijing, China of all places, and the one with the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, which is the only example likely ever to fly.

MAAM’s WWII Weekend event covers a large part of Reading Regional Airport in Reading, Pennsylvania. There is a flea market with vendors selling everything WWII and 1940’s; from military uniforms and clothing to suitcases, jewelry and toys. There is a parade of vehicles, both military and civilian, a 1940’s fashion show and a radio show. The canteen stage features ’40s-era tribute acts like Abbott and Costello, The Manhattan Dolls, Frank Sings Frank and other pop culture icons of the period. In the evening, there is a hangar dance with the big band sounds of Glenn Miller.
