On June 27, aviation enthusiasts, history supporters, and members of the local community will have a unique opportunity to experience WWII aviation history firsthand during the Warbirds of Glory Fundraiser event. The day-long celebration will combine an open house showcasing ongoing restoration efforts with an evening gala fundraiser featuring a special presentation by Brigadier General Paul Tibbets IV.

The event begins with the Museum Open House from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., where visitors can tour the facility, meet the students and volunteers behind the projects, and see the progress achieved during 2025. Organizers say the open house will also provide insight into the ambitious restoration and educational goals planned for 2026. The museum has become increasingly recognized for its hands-on educational approach to aircraft preservation, particularly through projects such as the restoration of the “Sandbar Mitchell,” a WWII-era B-25 bomber being revived through the work of young volunteers and experienced mentors alike. By combining technical training with living history, the organization continues to foster a new generation of aviation preservationists while keeping historic aircraft stories alive. Following the daytime open house, guests are invited to attend the Gala Dinner Fundraising Event at the American Spirit Center VFW Hall in Brighton. The evening’s keynote presentation, titled From Hiroshima to Modern Deterrence, will be delivered by Brigadier General Paul Tibbets IV. As the grandson of General Paul W. Tibbets Jr., commander and pilot of the Boeing B-29 Enola Gay, Brig. Gen. Tibbets IV brings a deeply personal perspective to one of the most consequential moments in modern history. His presentation is expected to explore the historical legacy of the atomic missions while examining their continuing influence on modern strategic deterrence and military policy.

The June 27 activities will coincide with the Oakland Southwest Airport Open House, which will feature a fly-in, fire engines, food trucks, and a 5K run, creating a full day of aviation and community events around the airport grounds. Organizers note that seating for the Gala Dinner is limited and advance ticket purchases are required. For supporters of aviation history, warbird restoration, and youth education initiatives, the Warbirds of Glory Fundraiser promises to offer both an engaging behind-the-scenes look at ongoing preservation efforts and an evening of rare historical insight.
