The Tillamook Air Museum, Tillamook, OR, has released another update on the situation surrounding Hangar B, the historic WWII-era blimp hangar damaged during storms in December 2025. According to the museum, an application has now been filed for FEMA assistance to help cover part of the repair work. The organization said it is still waiting to learn what kind of support may become available, though officials noted that any approved funding would require a 25 percent local match.

The latest update follows the storm damage sustained last December, which forced the closure of the museum and led to ongoing cleanup and recovery work inside the hangar. Earlier updates from the museum outlined the extent of the damage, along with initial stabilization efforts and fundraising tied to the recovery process. You can read more about the previous updates HERE. Hangar B itself remains one of the few surviving wooden WWII blimp hangars in the country. Built for the U.S. Navy, the structure has long been associated with the Tillamook area and has housed the museum for years.

The museum said support from the local community continues to play an important role as work moves forward. “Hangar B is one of the last remaining wooden WWII blimp hangars in the United States,” the museum stated. “It has been a part of life in Tillamook County for generations. School trips, family visits, community events. It is more than a building. It is a shared piece of our history.” For now, restoration planning and fundraising efforts are continuing while the museum waits for further direction regarding federal support and the next stage of repairs.
